Society: The Basics, sixth edition, maintains its exciting writing style as well as the popular focus on global comparisons, social diversity within the United States, and critical thinking. But this text never stands still...

Major elements of the revision:

  •  A NEW CHAPTER... Chapter 7, "Sexuality" is a new chapter on an important and fascinating dimension of human existence.
  •  A NEW COMBINED CHAPTER... The chapter "Environment and Society," found in the last edition, has been combined with the discussion of population and urbanization. This new chapter (Chapter 15, "Population, Urbanization, and the Environment") provides an integrated discussion of three closely-related issues. It also allows including a new sexuality chapter while keeping the chapter count at sixteen.

Chapter 2: Culture

Chapter 5: Groups and Organizations
